GREAT YARMOUTH 0, KINGS LYNN 0

Yarmouth held off Blue Square North Kings Lynn for a well-merited draw on Saturday. Bloaters’ ‘keeper Elliott Pride saved a 46th minute Danny Bloomfield penalty thanks to a touch of kidology but the draw was no less than Yarmouth deserved for a battling performance through wind, rain and – finally –some sun!

The Linnets may have dominated the attacking exchanges but the Wellesley visitors were frustrated by sound team work and dogged defending from the Ridgeons Division One side.

Lynn had good chances in the first half, with Pride pushing one effort onto his bar and another cross sliding off the same but Stewart Roach, a former Linnet, and Liam Bartley (twice) went close for Yarmouth. Just before half time Greg Crane sent a bullet header just over the home bar.

The penalty miss came after Joe Francis was bundled off the ball in the first attack of the second half. Then on the hour Lynn manager Keith Webb finally brought on star summer signing  Julian Joachim to the obvious delight of the travelling supporters but as more substitutes appeared for both sides, the Bloaters’ fitness and resolve did not wane as against Clyde and Lynn, who now attacked continuously, were repulsed at times with relative ease.

Lynn won corner after corner, including four in a brief added time period but could  not make the vital breakthrough. Even when Pride did drop a Simon Weaver header, centre-back Gareth Palmer was there to hack it away.

Yarmouth were restricted to only occasional breakaways and Nick Crawley saw a shot blocked while substitute Jose Vide forced a header from an underworked Lynn defence. With the Linnets perhaps suffering from wounded pride after failing to beat a team four rungs below them in the non-league order of things, Yarmouth will take a great many more positives from this game.
